We continue with Questions&Answers on the Music Series.

*ARE INSTRUMENTS NEEDED OR ARE WE SUPPOSED TO USE INSTRUMENTS IN CHURCH???*

Some verses in the old testament relating to instruments:
1 Chronicles 15:16 ; 16:42, Nehemiah 12:36 Habakkuk 3:19)

This is mostly seen among the Church of Christ fraternity. Their reasons are to practise what is only in the NEW TESTAMENT of which instrumental music isn't mentioned,which they also say adulterates the music hence not biblical.Details below:

Yes, nothing of instruments is directly mentioned in the new testament.
However, my simple answer is a question- Does it mean it is prohibited or unscriptural?

Should we then abandon everything in the old testament? Isn't the old a  foreshadow of the new?

What does making MELODY in Ephesians 5:19 actually mean?
Yes, no doubt We can just sing to praise God. However, I also believe instruments is a great aid in our worship to God.

Whether singing or with instruments, I believe the key factor in music is its source not the above question

*ARE ALL 'SO CALLED GOSPEL' SONGS GOSPEL/CHRISTIAN?*

Straightforward Answer No. They're all over the place  especially now with Jesus in it and all that.  Yes I repeat SO CALLED GOSPEL SONGS.

As said earlier to qualify as a Gospel song, it must have a clear Message from God& the Spirit Backing in order to meet our core Spiritual Need.

Sorry, most of these gospel songs especially now don't meet this. You know what let the Spirit speak to you as you hear them.

*ARE ALL SECULAR MUSIC BAD?*

Hmmm, tough one.My simple answer is this: Generally, NO.
Of course, most of them are not good (especially recent ones) but there are few good ones.

(Personally, I say that if most the current songs had the same moral content as of old at least the world will be a better place)

In all these,does it make it a spiritual song/Gospel as described in Colossians 3:16??

*SHOULD A CHRISTIAN LISTEN TO SECULAR MUSIC?*

Hehehe...these debatable topics ee.Can we then listen to those few good ones?
The mere fact it has moral lessons or some religiousity around it doesn't mean it is Gospel.

Refer to what makes a song gospel above. These few songs though good are still unable to meet our core Spiritual Need timelessly.
Unless seated on biblical principles, the song content fail with time.

I must hasten to add  that God in his own ways may use some of these secular artistes to speak us or to make a needed impact.

A song like Wogbe Jeke(Birth of a Nation) from Amandzeba Nat Brew is a fine National piece. How many times do we see our Gospel ministers do songs on these and other social, moral issues with Christian underlyings.

Anyway, so should *we* be listening to more of Amandzeba's songs?...Answer that.

To the main question above, I believe the answer is still a *No(Solely Gospel)* *unless* in such situations as just explained above.

'Q&A ON THE MUSIC SERIES'(PART 1)

Gradually, we are inching towards the end of the Music Series. Therefore, this morning I bring you what I call the (Q)uestions&(A)nswers on the Music Series.

I know for some of you this series wouldn't be complete without tackling these:

*WHY MOST OLD SONGS ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN THE CONTEMPORARY ONES???

I'm not sure this is in doubt.Take note I didn't say ALL. Do I need to research?

Hymns, Psalms as we know are powerful. Powerful here means
-Pleasing/honouring God
-Meeting the  spiritual needs of his people&other aspects. 

This is confirmed in Col. 3:16
'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly teaching and admonishing one another...singing psalms,hymns &spiritual songs with thankfulness  in your heart to God'.

What is considered Spiritual songs (Gospel) is the chief concern here. I believe the old songs are powerful because of these:
-A  (Direct) Message from God.
-Backed by the HOLY SPIRIT.
-A life of PURITY.

* CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC - IS IT HONOURING GOD?

I must say i enjoy some of the contemporary songs very well(Spiritual).

However,  i 'BELIEVE' a lot of them don't honour God hiding under the different genres&modern styles. The above reasons can be easily ascribed here. 

The positive is that it draws a lot of the Youth (including unbelievers). I believe it can be contemporary yet honours God. (Let's check that very well)

*WHAT ABOUT THE LIVES OF MUSICIANS???

Hmmm, this question eee -that life of PURITY/HOLINESS right?

Without a doubt, MOST Musicians(instrumentalists) are noted for ungodly living. Agean, No need for any research  here. Sexual immorality,idolatry,  envy,pride,coveting et al.

How do you expect your song to make the needed impact?
Sadly, some think their songs are really  just by virtue of it being a  hit,money&wealth gained.

Though 'unseen' but the songs of those musicians who live holy lives are seen by the SPIRITUALITY of the song churned out.This is determined by how well you're in tune with the spirit or relationship with God.

THANK GOD YOU ARE ALIVE!!!

MEDITATE comes your way this morning. Another powerful passage that require carefulness& watchfulness from us. Let's look at it:

Galatians 1:6-10
NO OTHER GOSPEL

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the Grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—

7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the Gospel of Christ.

8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

BELOVED, I would implore you have a deep meditation on the above. The Lord has something for us especially in these times we find ourselves.

MUSIC SERIES:MUSIC, HOW ESSENTIAL?

We're still on the Music Series& so far we've looked at TALKING MUSIC(Its Origin&Source) and then MUSIC, THE BASICS.

This evening i ask- Can we imagine this  life without music?

I can't say Music is everything but definitely it is vital.
If even before creation, Music existed then it should tell you God had a reason for it. It is that ESSENTIAL. (Job 38:4-7)

This evening we simply look at MUSIC, HOW ESSENTIAL?
First, 

 

* INDIVIDUAL& SOCIETY
-Music promote wellness,manage stress, alleviate pain,
express feelings& enhance memory.

- Music has Therapeutic Effect in the Life of human& promote physical rehabilitation.

-Apart from improving communication, Music helps Human to express themselves
with Ease.(Manythings are better&effectively expressed through Music)

- Music draw people together to uplift them emotionally binding them together.

*OUR FAITH
- In our faith, Music is a key medium to speak&hear from God. 

-Principally, it's a way of deepening our intimacy with God.(We receive deep mysteries  with diligence)

-Music encourages, inspires&bring joy to the Christian, it doesn't only entertain but bringing lasting joy boosting our faith.

*CHURCH
 The importance of Music in the church dates back to days of old.
-2 Chron 20:22- 'Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon... who had come against Judah;

- Music aided in defeating the enemy&this is still useful in spiritual warfare today. 

-2 Chron. 5:13-14  Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters & singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising&thanking the Lord...

As seen, Music was&is still used in ushering ourselves into God’s presence.
It is still useful in ministerial work even today. 

-Miracles, healing&deliverance are all aided through Music. (1 Samuel 16:23)

MUSIC SERIES-THE BASICS (PART 2)

🎵 I will sing, yes, I will praise, even in my darkest hour...through the sorrow& the pain.I will sing...🎵(Don Moen-I will sing)

We continue the BASICS on the Music Series.

* For those TECHNICAL terms like notes,chord,key,clasical, soprano, staggato, octave,quartert,opera&  the rest I'll leave it to the Music people like  Eyako, K.K& Pkay to explain.😃

* MUSIC GENRES/STYLE
I believe any Genre of music can be used to Glorify God. Unless there is something I've not found yet.
Maybe HIP POP&its roots as said before. I'll Find out more for later.

Primarily, I believe it's a matter of culture& we should be guided by that.(What's  Hardcore Punk Genre to my mum-Nana Afia Achiaa😂...except God comes in oo)

Some other Genres:
Blues, Classicals,Rock, Country, Rap,Pop, Jazz, Praise&Worship, *CONTEMPORARY& TRADITIONAL(More on these two later)

Then we LOOK AT:
*ADORATION(adorare) is an aspect of Worship. It's said to be the highest form of worship.It's an intense admirationculminating in reverence&worship.

Simply, when someone says 'I ADORE you... Apart from its beauty&unconditionality, it magnifies LOVE in its entirety. (It's just TOO MUCH)
THIS IS WHAT WE OFFER GOD

*PRAISE(yadah )is aptly littered throughout scripture.
-Webster defines the word praise as TO SAY GOOD THINGS ABOUT...
-To CALL ATTENTION to his glory .
-Basically, to express a heart of approval, admiration& gratitude.
-Being thankful to him&we forever are.

*WORSHIP (proskuneo) is “to fall down before” or “bow down before.”

Worship is more than a song. We have heard  this through Music. Well and it's more than a Genre. It is a lifestyle. Your entire life is Worship unto God.

And so as we meet, we offer the totality of our lives.(WORSHIP)
Music is not the only way we do this but it is one of the keys mediums to.

'MUSIC SERIES: THE BASICS'(PART 1)

 On the series today, let's start with the fundamental question-What is MUSIC???

If someone bangs a cooking pan, it only makes noise. However if he bangs it in a rhythmic way, it's a simple type of music.(Can Easily BeEnjoyed)

*Therefore Music is an art of sound that expresses ideas & emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody,harmony&color.
* Also it's a musical work or compositions for singing or playing.

Personally, I hold the above Generic definitions  very true. However,this is my simple definition  in the Christian context( which is PARAMOUNT):

"Music is a Creative Pleasurable medium God uses to speak to his 'people' through his 'people'  in a unique,rhythmic way. 

To everything, there is a Spirit behind it& so is Music. Therefore, for any music to qualify  as Gospel or Christian;  it must  first have these 2 BASICS: 

-A MESSAGE FROM GOD &

-BACKED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD.

Now, essentially the message/Gospel/Good News God gives us is to Glorify him& this can be anything of worth or value to humanity.
(Thou it's mostly restricted in the Christian fraternity) e.g A song about Heart disease. 

However, betterstill one distinguishing factor is the SPIRIT OF GOD that backs it.

It's from this that we later employ the humanly endowed giftings or creations like voice, instruments, sounds to give it the total music feel.

This should tell you that though the dynamics, instrumentation, rhythm are needed but the above is key. (Accapela is an example)

Lastly, This DIFFERENCE:  

A Musician is one who makes their own music-writes or composes their songs, knows how to play an instrument(s) as well as can sing or perform.

 

A singer is restricted as he uses mainly the voice (which is also instrument) to sing or perform the music with or without an instrumentation.
They may be in lacking some aspects like not always writing their songs&not playing an instrument.

MUSIC SERIES:TALKING MUSIC(ORIGIN)

Continuing the series,  we take you on a quick Music journey.

On this journey, I found out from my research some interesting revelations about the origin of MUSIC. (Take note of the highlighted words)

* The origin of music itself is veryDIFFICULT to determine because in all PROBABILITY, it is likely to have begun with singing,clapping or beating the hands... for which no definite record can be found.

Music is everywhere. We can't escape it. It's difficult to say when music began...PREHISTORIC DRAWINGS on cave walls depict both ANIMALS and PEOPLE.

* Music MAY have been in existence for at least 55,000 years and the first music may have been invented in Africa.

* The oldest musical instrument ever discovered is believed to be flute.With others forms like drum&other percussion instruments.

* In the Greek world,  Music(mousike) covered not only music but also dance, lyrics & performance poetry.

For the ancient Greeks, music was viewed as a gift from the 'gods'.  Specific instruments is attributed to particular deities: Hermes the lyre , Pan the syrinx (panpipes) and Athena the aulos (flute).

THERE ARE MANY SOURCES BUT A LOOK AT THESE SUGGEST WHERE THE WORLD LEADS US TO.
A STATE OF UNCERTAINTY,CONFUSION&WRONG BELIEFS. 

(This also relates to the belief&existence of GOD )

This is why we started right from the source(God&his word) in the first 2 parts of this Music Series.

Therefore as said, the first reference to Music was inGen.28:21.Jubal a descendants of Adam was called 'the father of lyre &pipe.

However, scripture tells us Music existed before Adam.
In Job 38:4 &7 God asked Job, “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?... “When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” 

This clearly settles it for us... to know that Music is from GOD &he uses it to channel a lot about the Christian faith to us. 

SO I SAY:
THE WAY IS NOW CLEARED....STAGE SET...WE NOW GET TO WHAT MUSIC REALLY IS.

'MEDITATE!!!'(JAMES 4:7-12)

I am thankful for one thing this morning& that is BEING ALIVE THIS MORNING...GLORY BE TO GOD.

We do MEDITATE.I like the message because verse by verse it has a strong message to carry you throughout the day. 

Now the MEDITATIVE MESSAGE:

7 Submit yourselves,  (then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 

8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.

10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 

12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?

TALKING MUSIC (HOW IT ALL STARTED-PART 2)

'The Lord is mighty, in my heart, my Lord Jesus is king, over all the nations. We glorify your name...'

 

Yeah continuing singing... We continue the Music Series right from where we left off yesterday.

From the old testament, one person music can be equated to is DAVID. 

*Main man David is described in 2 Sam. 23:1 as the sweet psalmist of israel.
He is credited with writing most of the songs recorded as psalms in the Bible.

He was the official musician in saul's court since known for
playing harp which drove the evil spirit away.(1sam.16:14-)

During David’s reign, he organized the Levitical musicians.

More so, 1 Chron. 15:16 & 23:5 record that more than 1 in10 Levites in the temple were musicians.

* Other musicians include:
-Asaph(12 Psalms),
sons of Korah(10 Psalms),Heman&Ethan(1 Psalm each)

-Solomon(2 psalms, Ecclestiastes&Songs of Solomon,1005
other songs as affirmed in 1kings 4:32.)

In the New Testament,
* 2 Gospels mention that Jesus&his disciples sang a
hymn in the last supper. (Matt.26:30, Mark 14:26)

* Through Prayer& Music, Paul& Silas got the prison doors shaken & eventually got their freedom. 

*Paul again tells us of an important role of  Music in Col.3:16& Eph.5:19 which aids us in  living a Spirit-led life. 

*Music is used as a period of mourning& celebration(Matt.9:23& luke 15:25, Janes 5:13),Coronations,(1Kings1:39-),events in royal court(Eccl.2:8)

In all, it is important we remind ourselves music originated right from Heaven with our perpetual adversary the devil in-charge

As the 24 elders worships God forever.
this is what we'll do.We'll live in eternal praise,adoration,peace,love& joy.

Errrhmm yes it's a song message as I do occasionally.
Maybe as part of the music series and our musical festival, this is apt.

However, I decided to share not just because of the above reason but
because there is a message in there.

So whatever it is now, how hopeless things seem, how lost &forsaken

'TALKING MUSIC-HOW IT ALL STARTED-PART 1'

To God be the glory, great things he hath done. So love he the world that he gave us his son.
Who yielded his life& atonement for sins& open the life-gate that all may go on.
Praise the lord...

I'm sure you were singing along_This old sweet-loving spiritual hymn is always refreshing to the soul.

So Talking Music  takes us back to the  very beginning.(There is no other beginning than God-John 1)

This also means I had to do a lot of research to get this.So heyy,be educated,enlightened &enjoy as we talk MUSIC.

These are references to Music in the bible:

*The first reference to a musician was in Gen.28:21.Jubal who was the 4th generation from Adam through Cain was called 'the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

* The book of Moses records 3 songs.
-In Exod.15, which was after the victory over pharaoh&his army.
At that time,  Moses' sister,Miriam led the israelites women with tambourines&dancing.

-Then, Deut. 32, a song recounting God's faithfulness before his
death.
-Lastly,a prayer song recorded in Psalm 90.

*In Joshua 6:1-20, the sound of the trumpets  broke the walls of Jericho.

*The songs of Deborah in Judges 5 beautifully captures a heart of Praise as she leads Israel to defeat the Canaanites.

*When Jephthah returned from battle,his daughter met him with timbrels& dance in Judges 11:34.

*Then to the MAIN MAN David (sweet Psalmist of Israel as described in 2 sam.23:1),official musician in Saul's  court, songwriter&...

I would have to end here...a lot in store as we continue tomorrow evening from David through to the new testament. 

Music is scattered all over through ScriptureI'm of a firm belief you'll appreciate MUSIC the more,know its place in your faith& in God's scheme of things.

Coming up..

'MUSIC SERIES' (INTRO)

Music is a sweet thing. I don't know who doesn't like it.

They call it the universal language. Melodious& always pleasing to the ears. (Well, I must say the good ones)

So for the 2 weeks ahead before we hit our MUSIC FESTIVAL WEEK (Trinity Baptist Church), we will dig deep into the MUSIC World.

Some areas to look at:
*Talking music(How it all happened in scripture)

*What is music- General & Biblical definitions, some music terminologies (Adoration, praise,worship....)
-Music Genres/Types
-Why are the old slow songs still powerful than the modernized ones today.

* Should it be solely Secular or gospel?

*  Is Music all about the voice, lyrics, dynamics, arrangements?  Is there a spirit backing every song? How about that & the message from God?

*The role/ importance of music in our lives/faith, church, heaven.

*How essential is it in the Christiandom?

- Is music overrated or blown out in church? what about the lives of
musicians?

* HYMNAL SERIES under the music series will come in later.

All in all I'm hoping that by the end I would have.... (I believe will come along the line)

'LET'S LOOK FOR ZACCHAEUS!!!'(LUKE 19:1-10)

I used to go from house to house looking for Zacchaeus some years back. Of course, not the one in the Bible, Jesus already found him.

I meant I went around doing Evangelism. I don't get the chance to do it on that scale owing to work and other demands now. I hope to able to return to that aspect soon or let's say in a more comprehensive manner.

What about you?...Are you looking for (your) Zacchaeus???

You are so blessed just because you have Jesus! No matter how life pins you to its elastic stretch, he has always been with you& still make this life meaningful to you.

What about that 'Zacchaeus' who is lurking around hoping to be looked for?

They're really eager to have that Jesus in their lives too.
They feel so ashamed to speak out, so unfit to belong, so weak to rise up,so veiled to see &so sinful to be saved. 

All their ruthless bravado & resentments  are all borne out of their weaknesses. Deep within, they are longing for the CHRIST to complete their lives.

Christians, what are we doing? Souls are perishing every single day? 

We may not get the time to do what Jesus did...but just a word, a POST, a lifestyle, an encounter & a purposed mind & heart to LOOK FOR that lost soul is what we need every single day. 

However,  I also believe we should come to the point where winning souls on all angles is and should be our reason for living. It should be the basis for whatever we do.

And so whether a full time minister, one with an evangelistic calling or rather importantly for me the many christians in the work world; let's see soul winning as a daily function which is pursued every moment of our lives.

"Go ye therefore..." he says in Matthew 28:19 referring to every individual who profess the name of Jesus Christ and i tell you the many of the lost Zacchaeus' are in the world of work where a lot of 'christians' also abound.

Ths simply tells us this...

'We need to live each day of our lives LOOKING FOR A LOST ZACCHAEUS for they are everywhere needing Jesus' 

SO I SAY:

'LET'S LOOK FOR ZACCHAEUS!!!'

'FIRE: ANOTHER ELEMENT DESCRIBING OUR GOD'(PART 2)...WRAPPING UP THE SERIES

Drawing this series to a close, we end on this FIRE note.

From the New testament, Fire appears mainly as an DOOMSFUL element either used to portray the Lord’sJUDGEMENT or his fearful side. A look into the new testament now: 

* ...This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire (2Thess1:7)
-Depart from me,you who are cursed into the eternal fire prepare for the devil& his angels. (Matt.25:41)

-FOR OUR GOD IS A CONSUMING FIRE (Hebrews 12:29)
-Other verses:(Matt.7:19,13:40,5:22, Hebrews 12:18, Mark 9:45, Luke 17:29, 2 Pet.3:12, Jude1:7)

*Another aspect is its famous domestic side-good servant but a bad master.
-It served as a source of light in Luke 23:55-56

-Matthew 17:15 tells of a woman who son suffered from seizures from falling into fire.
(Other  verses are:Acts 28:3, John18:18,)

Our main focus is however from these . The fire of God represents God's PRESENCE, PASSION and his PURITY.

Matthew 3:11-12
I baptize you with water... But after me comes one who is more powerful than I... He will baptize with the Holy Spirit& fire.

In Acts 2, we find  the Holy Spirit appearing as tongues on fire on the Apostles.
(Beloved, God's PRESENCE is the  greatest we could ever receive because his presence=Spirit=God himself is all we ever in our time now) 

* One of the things his Fire does to us after infilling us is to give us zeal&passion to continue to do his work. An unquenchable fire which need to kept aflame at all times. ()

*Then, he continues to bless us with Baptism by fire. We are made anew spiritually but physically many fleshly things have taken roots which ought to be uprooted

Purging us unto Purity. (1Pet1:7)

His work will shown for what it is...it will be revealed by fire and the fire will test the quality of every man's work. (1 Cor.3:13)

In all, these are what these elements WATER,LIGHT,AIR, ,LAND,OIL&today FIRE do to our faith. 

As I intimated earlier and has been  proven, the above elements ONLY DESCRIBE &can't be equated to our God.  The Holy Spirit is what can be equated to God.

ALL THESE ELEMENTS DESCRIBE OUR GOD.

'MEDITATE'(James 3:13-18)

Coming from a long weekend, we do MEDITATE this morning. Let's shoot

Two Kinds of Wisdom
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

14 But if you harbor bitter, envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 

16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

SO I SAY:
'MEDITATE!!!'

FIRE:'ANOTHER ELEMENT DESCRIBING OUR GOD'

FIRE is the state,process,or instance of
combustion in which fuel or other material is ignited &combined with oxygen, giving off light, heat,and flame.

(Too scientific I know but the more you think about it, the more it tells you asupernatural mystery behind it )

There are many   definitions but chose these few:
-Burning intensity of feeling or enthusiasm.
- Liveliness, vivacity of imagination;brilliance

It has many domestic purposes but as we know& learnt in school, Fire is a good servant but a bad master.

Let's now look at the old testament account:
*In Gen. 19, we see fire the destructive use of fire by God himself on Sodom&Gomorrah.
*Aided Abraham in his sacrifice of Isaac  to the Lord.(Gen. 22)

*Throughout the book of Exodus,Leviticus& Numbers;  Fire serves many purposes:

-Used for Egypt's destruction( Ex.9:23)
- As a pillar of fire by night for the Israelites(Ex.13:21)
- For sacrifices
(Ex.29,30,32, Leviticus&Numbers Books)

This is just a brief account of fire  in these books
However, apart from these, the below verses are our focus giving a clearer picture.

In Exodus 3:2, the burning bush by fire which wasn't consumed. This was Moses calling by God.
( TO DISPLAY HIS WONDER. )

In Exodus 19:18, we see a clear demonstration at Mount Sinai where God himself appeared on it in FIRE.
(TO REVEAL&SPEAK TO HIS PEOPLE)

In Leviticus 9:24, And there came a fire out from before the Lord and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering...
(TO SHOW HE'S FEARFUL&JUST SIDE)

Obviously, from these accounts, Fire mostly shows a serious&a fearful side all part of who he is and as part of his ways.
(The new testament explores more tomorrow.)

SERIES: OIL-ANOTHER ELEMENT DESCRIBING OUR GOD (PART 2)

Let's continue the OIL Series. 

 

A look at the New testament & OIL(Anointing) comes in  these key mentions:

 - Luke 7- Jesus encounter with Mary Magdalene. The famous story of the alabaster jar filled fragrant oil.

- In Luke 4:18, where Jesus himself was anointed for service. I declare that your set time is coming where you'll also be anointed for ministry 🙏 

-In his healing& miracles, he anointed many (John 9)

- There other mentions in Rev.6&18, Mark 16

My focus is in 2 areas:
Matthew 25,the parable of the10 virgins. It is used figuratively. The oil of the 5 wise virgins signified the Holy Spirit. This tells us of what the other 5 lacked which decided their fate. 

It is explained further in Acts 10:38, which says how God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit& with power as he went about doing good, healing....

Beloved, this is the highest anointing that God has given us. We're Anointed with his Spirit hence called the CHOSEN ONE. 

We are chosen to fulfil a purpose& with that we need to be  equipped constantly for this mandate. It's why through his Spirit he still anoints us with oil&other mediums to  daily fulfil this.

I END WITH THESE DECLARATIONS:
In Hebrews 1:9, he says-... HATH ANOINTED THEM WITH AN OIL OF GLADNESS.
Tonight, I pray an OIL of Gladness be released into your life to face whatever situation with joy.

In James 5:14, he asks Is anyone sick among you? Let them call the elders of the church, pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 

For some, this is how their healing should happen. I pray that no matter that illness, as hands are laid upon you & with the flow of  that OIL in God's name; may you be HEALED.🙏

SERIES: OIL-OTHER ELEMENTS DESCRIBING OUR GOD' (PART 1)

Typical to this series, let's do a background. Oil has a lot of definition to it. Let's do some key mentions.

-A thick NATURALLY occurring, yellow-to-black liquid beneath the EARTH'S SURFACE normally used as fuel or lubricant.(Petroleum/Crude oil)

 Does it tell you of the source or was it just by accident???

- There is also that oil that is obtained from plant& animal sources and mainly used for food preparation.(Cooking Oil)

However,of all of the oils, OLIVE OIL is the BEST. Olive oil  is easily pressed from fruit of the olive tree. However, the purest (100%) is ” Real extra virgin” olive oil.

Other definitions are:
To lubricate,to illuminate, for perfuming, heating, to  calm situations, to bribe. (Done some academics here?)

One definition that I intentionally left out is ANOINTING which is almost linked to Oil.

Let's go into the Bible.
In the old testament, the use of oil is mentioned from Genesis to Numbers which was mainly used for sacrifices,  purification& Anointing ( Gen.28:18, Lev. 2:1, Numbers 4:16)

Olive oil is affirmed in scriptures hence only mentioned. Exodus 30:23-26 gives a recipe for the making of Olive oil as Anointing oil making it the right fit for Anointing purposes. 

As known Anointing is almost linked to Oil and so we see  in I Samuel 9& 16, the anointing of Saul and Samuel as kings of Israel.

Anointing is to smear or rub with oil which also means to consecrate for office or religious service”(Chosen one)

It also refers to God's ability or enablement to do something with ease in spite of all the struggles. 

From this, anointing is a symbol of blessing, protection& empowerment for service.

Of course key to note that OIL in itself  has no power but God has put Power in his natural creation to give meaning to his work&prepare us for specific purposes. 

This is why we all need  God's oil (Anointing) upon our lives from time to time to sharpen and empower ours for service. More from the new testament in Part 2
