#GloryTussle- Is it the Glory in Schools Attended?…
1 John 5:21(Amplified version) “Little children (believers, dear ones), guard yourselves from idols—[false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart].”
The Presecs, Prempehs, OWASS’, Aburi Girls, Mfantsipims,St.Louis, YaGHSS et al…
Then to the
KNUSTs, LEGONs,UCCs, The Oxfords, Harvards et al …
And so….
*Is it not trivial?
*What can be wrong or harmful about celebrating & letting the world know how proud you’re of your school?
*What’s the big deal in joining,supporting and promoting my school for all to know?
*Is that not supposed to be an aside, an extracurricular that should not be blown out?….
The FLIP-SIDE will simply say:
*If only we only saw it & treated as such??
*If only our boast and Pride in the schools we attended do not go the extreme?…
*That is, Go at every length to attend that School if it means corrupting others or any other ungodly act, not look down on others, see yourselves as superior, defining others by
the school attended…
Yet is that all there’s to life?….Is that what determines one’s destiny?….
(Take note of this statement- What example or thing in this World would you not find directly or indirectly in the Bible-EVERYTHING )
And so In the Bible, “Both the Pharisees and the Sadducees were highly educated, learned scholars and religious elites of first-century ancient Israel & Yes, their education and elite status profoundly affected how the Pharisees and Sadducees worshipped God, causing them to substitute genuine spiritual devotion with rigid legalism, political preservation, and strict ritualism.” (Matt. 23:1-2)
They made their education and the extreme Pride in it their demi-god. Don’t gore their Ox…meaning who are you to challenge their authority & interpretation of scripture as learned people from elites institutions.
What this simply means?….Like any other thing not just our Pride in our Alma maters, a seed is sown in this canal human self; how we grow, care& guard with the right ‘vitals’ will determine its PROPER place in our lives.
I remember what one powerful man of God, Mr. Boateng told young teenagers including myself about certain idols we had created for ourselves and a key one was our Pride in the Schools we attended. Doing this topic today made me remember it clearly
In Ghana, the National Science and Math Quiz(NSMQ) is Senior High School(SHS) competition which brings the topic to bare. At first it was dominated by elite SHS further affirming the glory topic here but now we see many less privileged schools with strong showing, reaching the finals and even winning.
The Former Education minister & Bosomtwe MP, Dr.Adutwum is showing a clear path with less endowed Bosomtwe SHS and offering full scholarship in STEM to graduates at the tertiary level. It is gaining prominence and churning out great talent in the field already. Says a lot.
I attended KNUST Senior High School, not an elite school (though with the Kwame Nkrumah name
), BUT It has definitely not defined my future though key part of the story.
While I concede that now, this whole Pride in school thing is waning and people are beginning to see it just doesn’t determine how far you go in life. However, it still persists hence our treatment here.
Dear one, Don’t trivialize it but learn from it all. The Pride & height many take, continues to YET…
Aside the naive teenage, parents will do anything ungodly if only it’s required…
And so Like every other thing, it makes us take our destinies into our hands, want to fashion it out all by ourselves and invite God to bless it later. Meanwhile, God has our lives mapped out already. With this you can tell where the Glory will most likely go to because it was barely by our maneuvering. Let’s Be Mindful& Careful .
So Yeah, it is what it is, God made or allowed such notable and elite schools only to teach us a lesson that, that alone does not define your life, it takes more than just that as there are plenty examples positively and negatively.
Don’t let your Pride or the glory we get from them drive you to the extreme. Enjoy every glory/Pride that comes with attending one but never think it is the all in all.
Be Conscious about this at all times -Let God continue to be at the driving seat of your life and with that more and more you’d come to the realisation these things are virtually nothing. Ultimately, they don’t define or determine who you become. Only God does and so let him write your life story whether with elite or non elite schools. It will still be Beautiful &Glorious to his name.
