GloryTussle- Is it the Glory in Football(Sports)
1 John 5:21(Amplified version) “Little children (believers, dear ones), guard yourselves from idols—[false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart].”
*What’s so harmful with having a leisurely sport like Football??…
*What’s the big deal in supporting a team just for the fun of it?…
*Are we or can we even bury our head in the core spirituals 24/7?
*Did Jesus himself not make time to attend a wedding through which he performed a miracle?…(aside the many feast with his disciples & many other sinners)
*All Work& no play….Isn’t that why Ecclesiastes says – So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. Eccl. 3:12 (Eccl 5.18)
*With all these, I hope you’re not part of those who say these things are of the world and so are evil?…
Then again, the flip side:
It may not be Evil in itself though of the world but…
*Is it not the same Football(Sport) that people die and kill or are killed for?
*Is it not the same sport that people can trade or bet their houses and prized possessions on?…
*Is it not the same sport that people take extreme pride/ glory in, are prepared to do anything and everything even at the expense of the far more weightier issues of life?….
*Is it not the same Pride in your teams that makes you talk anyhow,use those foul language atypical of you?…
…make you hurtful, reactive and vindictive because they’ve given you an upper cut and you just have to respond otherwise you’ll be tagged weak?….
That which make your canal self come alive more?….
What this simply means?…. Like any other thing not just Sports, a seed is sown in this canal human self; how we grow, care& guard with the right ‘vitals’ will determine its PROPER place in our lives.
Personally, while I can say my long awaited 22-year Arsenal celebration 
is justified with all my ‘drama’ on my socials; I will tell you how the Holy Spirit didn’t fail to remind, guide, straighten and even convict me when necessary.
Although I kept myself in check, the Spirit still whispered- “Do you see how proud you are about your team, hope you do EVEN MORE for me and sell me out for the world to know me….
Another thing my recent experience taught me is how easy it is for such things to EVENTUALLY let us fall off the Spiritual cliff even without realising. Again, It made me understand how easy for such things to take preeminence as we get more and more attached and our hearts go deeper & deeper.
And so Dear one, you just can’t say because it’s just for fun, What’s the whole farce?….. It is an emotional sport, full of diabolics, tagged with notoriety and so it just can’t be treated as normal. Like every other thing, it has that tendency to steal us from God hence the need to be watchful.
The key verse once more… “Little children, guard yourselves from idols—[false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart]”
Therefore, I say….
Our Love for Sports(Football) CAN run counter to the ways of God, Our hearts in them can take away our commitment from our maker to such things….Eventually, they can rival our faith, be our god, taking the place of God.
Yes, God made or allowed these recreations to have its due minimal place in our lives; Don’t let your Pride or the glory we get from them drive you to the extreme. Enjoy every bit of that temporary glory moments but always run back to the source of it all.
Be Conscious about this at all times -Let God continue to be the driving seat of your life and in this area, he will help you to use them right, tone down on them as should, convict you when going off & even cut them off when need be.

Ooh YES it sure CAN, the reason we need to guard it right putting in its rightful place.
